What business are you in?
We Service and repair outboard and inboard motors and offer an all-round boat mechanic service and we have been operating here at beautiful Lake Macquarie for around 8 years. We used to be exclusively a mobile service but more and more customers are bringing their boats to us.
What is the most pleasurable part of being in business?
The most pleasurable part of being in business would have to be being “your own boss” and being able to do things your own way. I really enjoy being able to service boats and know that the job I am doing has been done professionally and thoroughly. I get pleasure in knowing I have done every job correctly.
Why have you been successful?
We have been successful in business because we are honest, reliable and we love what we do. We are very passionate, enthusiastic and we have fun doing what we do.
What is the least pleasurable part of being in business?
I guess if I had to pick anything it would have to be working outside in the middle of summer. The longer days in summer, being so hot, can make it slightly uncomfortable.
Would you have done anything differently?
No, not really. I don’t think we would want to change anything, as we wouldn’t be where we are today. We are really happy with where we are headed.
What type of experience do you want to create for your customers?
We want our customers to find real value for money in our services. We want them to have confidence in their boat after visiting us here at Lake Mobile Marine. Customer service and satisfaction is a large component of what we want to achieve.
What input or support do you expect from your accountant?
We expect an accountant who is experienced and will provide good customer service. We would like someone friendly who can really get to know us and our business. I think we would also like someone to give us some advice from time to time. Novabp (our accountants) has recently helped us introduce Xero accounting software.
What advice would you give someone starting a new business?
I would tell them to find a good accountant! I would also tell them to research the industry and get some experience in running a business. Knowledge is the key factor.
Where do you see your business in the future?
We would like to see our business at a comfortable size, easy enough for us to manage. We also intend to expand our retail section and will offer a wider variety of marine products. Thanks Amber!
